What's under the boards matters most

A deck is only as good as its frame. Bounce, sagging, rot and lifting boards almost always come back to a frame that was rushed. So that's where we spend our time.

  • Pressure-treated timber frames, built level and square, over a weed membrane
  • Joist spacing, fixings and expansion gaps to the board manufacturer's specification
  • Drainage and airflow underneath, so nothing sits wet
  • You see the frame and sign it off before a single board goes down

“He was meticulous in his work, building a solid structure underneath and perfectly laid decking boards on top.” Naomi, via Bark

Excellent service, fantastic new decking

Excellent service from Luke and Chris. Really can not recommend them high enough. Firstly the communication from Luke was exceptional, he’s responsive and patient, answered lots of questions thoroughly and promptly. He listened to what we wanted, provided helpful advice and not once felt any pressure. They were reliable, turned up on time, were friendly and tidied up after themselves. I am very pleased with the results. Luke explained the products they were using, the structure and checked in to make sure we were happy with the progress.

Fantastic experience with Manchester Sovereign

I recently had a new composite deck installed, and I cannot recommend this company highly enough. A pleasure to have around: Luke and Chris were absolute professionals. They were friendly, polite, and made the whole process stress-free. It’s rare to find a team that is such a genuine pleasure to have on-site. Clear communication: They are excellent communicators. I was kept informed every step of the way, so there were never any surprises regarding the timeline or the build. Tidy workers: I was incredibly impressed by how organized they were. They kept the workspace safe and left everything spotless at the end of each day. The final result of the composite decking looks stunning. If you want a high-quality finish delivered by a top-tier team, ask for Luke and Chris!

Full replacement of decking

Top Team and exceptional work! Luke came to me in a time of need following a bit of trouble with a previous tradesman. He listened to the issues we had and set in motion a plan to rectify it, materials where ordered the same day the deposit was paid and he was on hand to receive them and ensure everything was correct. Over the course of the next few days the old decking was removed, the new frame installed and the new decking laid – worked across a multiple weather conditions from boiling hot sun to the downpours. Thank you for all your work – much appreciated we love it.

Questions we get asked

How much does a new deck cost?

It depends on the size, the height of the frame, the material (softwood, hardwood or composite) and extras such as steps, balustrades and pergolas. We price every job individually after a free site visit, so you get an accurate, itemised quote rather than a guess.

Composite or timber: which should I choose?

Composite costs more up front but needs almost no maintenance and won't rot or splinter. Treated softwood is the most affordable and can be painted or stained any colour, but needs repainting or re-treating every 2 to 5 years. Hardwood sits in between on upkeep and lasts a long time. See our composite and timber pages for a side-by-side comparison.

How long does it take to build a deck?

Many decks are built in one to three days. Large, raised or multi-level decks with steps, balustrades or a pergola take longer. Materials are ordered as soon as the deposit is paid, and you'll get a clear timescale with your quote.

Do I need planning permission for decking?

In England, decking and raised platforms more than 30cm above ground level generally need planning permission, and listed buildings and conservation areas have extra rules. Most ground-level decks don't. We'll flag anything that needs checking with your council.
